Retreat Centre - Meet the Staff

The Retreat Team

It has been a wonderful journey over the last few years to see the team develop. Our needs right now include a retreat centre administrator and a couple who are full time to host teams and lead retreats. If you are interested then email Stephe:

Andrew grew up in the UK and Canada and joined YWAM at 20. Over the years he served in Belize, Mexico and Scotland in a variety of roles. He is most fulfilled doing anything practical. Chris is English and has served with YWAM in Scotland and Romania in preschool ministry. They both served alongside Rite and Stephe during their YWAM Scotland years.

They are happy to be here and to serve in support roles during various seminars and courses. Chris will partner with Rite to continue developing Christian preschool training resources and they will travel together running "Preschool in a Suitcase" seminars overseas. Andrew is operations manager, responsible for all things practical around the centre.

Stephe & Rite Mayers: Stephe met Rite on a DTS/SOE in England in 1977 not far from his home town of London. They married and worked with YWAM in Scotland for 26 years.

In 1993 they focused on leadership development, Stephe earning his masters degree in Leadership studies at Azusa Pacific. Since then the LDC has been established all around the world. They moved to Spain in 2006 to pioneer a leadership retreat centre. Stephe is still involved in the leadership of YWAM Europe. Rite continues a focus on multiplying biblical preschools with her "preschool in a suitcase" workshops that she runs in different countries.
They have three grown up children.

Barbara was born in Scotland, but she has spent most of her life living in other parts of the world. Her YWAM involvement spans three decades - half of that time in Western Europe and the other half in Southern Africa. Her main areas of involvement have been discipleship and mentoring, mobilising teenagers and families for outreach, and equipping Christian leaders – particularly staff and leaders for child and youth ministry.

Part of the College of Education in the U of N, she is involved in supporting and training school leaders for the PCYM (principles in child and youth ministry) course. Since moving to Spain a few years ago, Barbara has enjoyed learning Spanish, as well as working with the LDC and the Leadership Retreat Centre.

Tony Rojas Castellanos is serving the retreat centre as a cook and bringing his wonderful experience in Mexican cuisine.

He comes from Mexico and has been with YWAM in Latin America, Canada and Norway in the past 13 years.

Kari and Maija-Tuulikki (Maija) Tassia have served in Youth With A Mission since 1984: several years as church planters in the UK among Indians and Pakistanis and five years as the national leaders for YWAM Finland. For more than ten years they have served as European regional coordinators for Frontier Missions and for YWAM Europe Member Care. At the moment they are YWAM Refugee Circle conveners.
Kari is the regional co-facilitator for Refugee Highway Partnership Europe and together with Maija they are members of the global Council of RHP ). Kari represents RHP Europe in various European mission networks, linking ministries and churches working among refugees. They live in Finland and Spain and have two daughters and four grandchildren.

Dagmar was born in Switzerland. She was a school teacher before serving with YWAM in 1996. Her first few years were spent helping to pioneer an inner city ministry in San Francisco, working with people on the fringes of society.
She moved to Thailand in 2002, where her focus was training & equipping staff & leaders, through mentoring, coaching, teaching & hospitality. Since 2015, she serves YWAM in Europe, both in Spain and Switzerland. Her focus continues to be training & equipping Christian leaders, supporting and empowering frontline missionaries to develop their calling, vision & destiny with excellence and to offer encouragement & spiritual impartation.

Steve & Issie worked in YWAM Scotland in the 1970's and 80's which is where they met. After leaving YWAM in 1988 Steve worked with adults with Autism and Asperger's Syndrome, and Issie for the Probation Service. They have two children, both married and two wonderful grandchildren!

Over the years they were involved in Church Leadership and have a passion for the Presence of God and to see leaders lead out of their relationship with God as Father. In 2013 they came back into YWAM and now divide their time between working on staff here at the Retreat Centre in Spain, staffing LDC's around the world, and their home and family in the UK. They have pastoral giftings and offer Coaching, Debriefing, Prayer Ministry and give Marriage support to people in missions. Currently they are also being trained in Spiritual Direction.
